Generating income from a personal website. Sound like a scam? It's not. Thousands of people use their personal websites to generate extra income or even make a living from their personal website everyday. It's key to keep in mind that we are talking about making money from a personal website and not selling products through an online store. While setting up an online store has become easier than ever, it's still a whole different ball game than making money from a personal website.
Setting up your website.
There are tons of articles on the Internet about setting up and creating your first website. I won't go into how you go about creating your first web page, but a quick Google search should yield you plenty of results that will have you on your way to publishing on the world wide web in no time. I recommend setting up some blogging software and using that to build your website. That's what we've done at CommerceStyle.com and it works great. Try searching for blog software like WordPress, it's free and does a great job.
What should my site be about?
This answer to this question can either be so obvious its dumb or it can be something you'll ponder on for days and days. Deciding what topic to cover on your personal website is key to whether anyone is going to want to read it or not. It's important not to just jump on the band wagon and create a website about the next big thing unless your interest and passion is what ever the next big thing is. A popular website topic at the time of this publishing this article is Poker. That doesn't mean you should write about it just because it's popular. If you are truly interested in Poker, If you play every chance you get, and talk about it for hours with your Poker buddies, then Poker might be the perfect topic for you, but don't go with a topic just because it's hot. Your personal interest in your web site's topic is what's going to make your visitors want to read what you write, and without their attention you won't make any money, but more on that later.
I've built my website....now what?
So you've got your website up and running, you're thinking...."now what? How the heck do I make money off this thing?" Well slow down just a bit. You're not quite ready to start pulling in cash just yet, first you've got to create something that people would want to see or read and put it on your website so they will come there and read and or read it. Start writing articles, reviews, how-to's, buyers guides, tutorials or anything else you
