The feeling
I always hated working late, walking home in the dark. Where I live, there is barely any light, just shadows formed by the moonlight, that's when there was a moon. If there wasn't a moon, then they were the longest nights, it seemed to take forever to get home, that's if I got home. You see I have a "friend", I don't know his name, I don't know where he's from, in fact, if the truth were to be told, I've never even spoken to him, we've never said a word to each other. I know, freaky weird right; Wrong!
Have you ever been introduced to someone for the first time, and even though you don't know each other, you hit it off as though you've been friends forever? Well that's kind of what this was like. We met on a night not unlike this one. I was walking home from work, when a couple of guys jumped out on me, they through me to the ground, as my head hit the pavement I was aware that there was someone else here, but I had taken quite a bump and couldn't really see anything, but I could hear the screams of men, then the running, then the silence, then the feeling, the feeling that this was someone I knew, The feeling that this wasn't the first time that the guy had taken care of me, then nothing but dark.
I awoke the next morning to the usual dodgy morning radio show, you know the kind where you can tell the DJ has had way too much caffeine for 6:30 am. I slowly got out of bed as the pain in my head suddenly decided to remind me of last nights events. I look into the mirror and see that not only had my aid managed to work out where I live and get me in the house, but he had also put a band aid on the cut across my head. Who was he? Where did he go? Why didn't he take me to the hospital? And more importantly, why did he seem so familiar when I never even managed to get a look at his face.
"wow, what the hell happened to you?" The banshee undertones that came from Becky my assistant weren't exactly what you ever wanted to be hearing at that time of the morning as you walked into the office, but for a girl of her age, proficiency and amazing ability to bring great coffee when you hadn't even asked for it, I tended to forgive her pretty quickly.
"I'm fine, I had a little run in with some muggers last night, that's all."
"That's all! That's all, what do you mean that's all? Are you ok? Did you go to the police? What did they say? Did they catch the guy? What did they...." Becky was great but she did have a tendency to over re-act to any slight drama. At the same
