Everyone wants beautiful, healthy nails. People think the only way to do that is to go to the salon and get their nails done. That is why some women cover their natural nails with acrylic. They mistakenly think that since they do not have tips on their nails, their nails are healthy. But the truth of the matter is that great nails are strong and do not need acrylic. Applying acrylic only weakens and damages the fingernail.

What can you do to have great nails?
Here are some tips so that you can have healthy, beautiful nails without going to the salon.

1. Do not cut your cuticles. Your cuticles are there for a reason: to reduce the chance of infection from fungus or bacteria. There is a greater chance of infection when you cut away your cuticles.

2. Moisturize the nail bed and the cuticle. Healthy nails are flexible. Constantly moisturizing will help the nails to stay supple and flexible. Without moisture, nails can become brittle, causing them to break, chip, or crack. After every time you wash your hands, apply lotion. Paying close attention to moisturizing the sides of your nails is helpful because that is where your nails most likely will break or split first. Before going to bed at night, it can be effective to use an oil-based moisturizer for deeper penetration.

3. Eat a vitamin rich diet and take vitamin supplements when needed. It is best to have a diet that allows you to obtain all of your vitamins and minerals from your food. But because of busy lives and other factors, we might not always eat the foods that we should. A vitamin supplement can help when there are deficits in the body because of poor diet. For example, Vitamin B-complex is especially necessary for healthy nails.

4. Use gloves. Use plastic gloves when working with chemicals to protect nails from being stripped of moisture and becoming brittle. Wear cotton gloves at night to retain moisture from lotion application.

5. Use a nail brush. Using a nail brush to clean the underside of the nails helps to maintain a clean appearance.

6. Be delicate with your nails as if you went to the salon. Have you noticed that people who go to the salon are very careful not do anything that would cause a nail to break? On the other hand, those who do not go to the salon are usually not that careful. If you are careful in the way you grab, handle, or grasp items it will prevent nails from breaking. The best example is opening a car door. Take your time to obtain a good hold on the door handle so that your hand does not slip and chip your nail.

Using these tips to take care of your nails will help you to have nails that are not only great-looking, but also strong and healthy.

Saving the money spent at the salon is also a great bonus!
