Countless summer nights I [sort of] remember; walking around my large patio, surrounded by all my friends having a good time. I could hear distant music whispering sweet nothings into the air. The smell of homemade delights wafting my spirit into a sensational high. The refreshing taste of a Tinto de Verano satisfying not only my thirst, but my taste buds as well.
That is my favorite drink, the Spanish Tinto de Verano'. Similar to Sangria, another famous Spanish drink, it is easily served in a pitcher which is perfect for any summer party. It is simple to make and the great thing about it is its malleable. You can change it anyway you want and it will most likely taste amazing.
Every Tinto de Verano is made with the same key ingredients;
1 part Red Wine
1 part soda (Usually sprite or seltzer)
Shake over ice and garnish with a lemon wedge
That is for a traditional Tinto de Verano; below I have a few of my favorite variations you may want to try.
Zinfandel y Cola
1 Part Beringer White Zinfandel
1 Part Cherry Coca Cola
Shake over Ice and garnish with a Cherry
Dr. Merlot
1 Part Merlot (any brand will do)
1 Part Dr. Pepper
Shake and serve over ice, garnish with a flag (lemon wedge wrapped around a cherry, held in place by a frilly toothpick)
Cabernet Bull
1 Part Cabernet Sauvignon
1 Part Red Bull
Shake and serve over ice, garnish with a lemon wedge
I hope this drink helps make your summer as memorable as mine were.
Enjoy!
