Swedish meatballs are a popular dish at weddings and parties. My recipe is simple and easy to prepare.
Ingredients
3 pounds of fresh ground beef or turkey
2 cups of unseasoned bread crumbs
3 eggs (beaten)
4 Tablespoons of oil
1 large onion (diced)
In a large frying pan warm up the oil and saut the onions.
In a large mixing bowl combine all your other ingredients and mix well, add the onions. Roll your mixture into 1 inch meatballs. Place the meatballs in the frying pan and cook on medium heat for 20 minutes rolling occasionally to brown all of the meatball.
SAUCE
2 cups of water
1 cup of milk
2 Tablespoons of sherry
1 Tablespoon of beef base or 2 beef bullion cubes
3 tablespoons of flour
In a large sauce pan bring the water to a rapid boil and add the beef base or bullion cubes turn the heat down to low and stir continuously till the base or cubes have dissolved creating a stock. Add the milk and sherry and cook for 5 minutes. Slowly add the flour and use a whisk to mix until all the lumps are gone.
In a serving dish pour half the sauce in the bottom of the dish add the meatballs and pour the remaining sauce over the top. Makes 32 meatballs.
