Recipes: Savory baked beans

Baked beans are a family favorite and a great pot luck dish. Over the years I have learned how to turn an otherwise ordinary dish of baked beans into an extraordinary side dish as well as a complete meal.

These recipes are quick and easy to prepare and require only a few ingredients and are delicious!

Traditional Baked Beans

~ Ingredients ~

2 - 24 ounce cans of beans (Granma Browns and Bushes are a great choice)


8 slices of bacon (uncooked)
1 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of molasses
1 small onion (sliced)

~ Preparation ~

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a large deep baking dish pour in your beans and molasses and mix well, sprinkle in your brown sugar and mix well.

Place the uncooked bacon on top with the onion slices and bake for 35 minutes. Serves 8

BBQ Baked Beans

~ Ingredients ~

2 - 24 ounce cans of baked beans (your choice)
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of molasses
1 small onion (sliced)
1 + 1/ 2 cup of BBQ sauce (your choice)

~ Preparation ~

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a large deep baking dish pour in your beans and molasses and mix well, sprinkle in your brown sugar and mix well.

Add the BBQ sauce and mix, place the sliced onions on top of the beans and bake for 35 minutes. Serves 8

Baked Beans Meal

~ Ingredients ~

1 pound of hamburger (cooked)
2 - 12 ounce cans of baked beans (your choice)
1 small onion (chopped)
2 tablespoons of Worchester sauce
Salt and pepper

~ Preparation ~

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a 9X13 baking dish combine your cooked hamburger, beans, onions and Worchester sauce mix well. Sprinkle a few shakes of salt and pepper on top of the mixture and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Serves 4 to 6

Serve your baked beans meal with a fresh tossed salad and buns for a complete meal.
