When you need a resume, sometimes going it alone and writing as well as revising and proofing it yourself is the right choice. Sometimes it isn't. When you need help for your resume, however, you can't just get hand over some quick facts about your previous employment and let someone churn out a cookie cutter general "seeking a position to use my customer service abilities" resume. You need to understand why you need help, how to choose the proper candidate to help you, and how to work with the one you choose to assist you with your resume.
When and Why You Will Need Help With Your Resume
You may feel fantastically overwhelmed, or just vague and unaware of what you need in your resume. Either way, writing a resume is not a task for the unsure.
You may need help with your resume because you aren't sure of the exact formatting, you may not need what your resume should include or how to get hired for a specific job. Maybe you have written, rewritten, and rewritten again until you just can't understand why it isn't landing the jobs you want.
Even if you just aren't sure if you have proofed it well enough, you need to get help with your resume.
The Right Person to Help You With the Resume
Not just anyone is qualified to help you with your resume. Unless they are a resume writer, don't let your family members, coworkers, or friends help you with your resume.
You need to hire a professional resume writer. Not just any resume writer will do either, but you will need to find a resume writer with the right qualifications.
A resume writer worth hiring to help your resume:
• has professional experience writing resumes
• is willing to have you and wants you to be involved in the process
• focuses on personalization
The right resume writer needs to focus on creating the absolute best product possible for you.
How to Work With the Person Who Helps You With Your Resume
Once you have found the right person to help you with your resume, you will realize that you can't simply leave them some standard facts because an excellent resume comes from research of your personal history and intended position. When you work with the resume writer, be sure to provide as much as as detailed information as you can. Give the resume writer theme direction about what you are looking for. Be sure you are involved in the process. A resume writer should let you be very involved, even let you see the resume drafts and notes as the project progresses.
How to Give Back
When someone helps you with your resume, help them and others by providing an honest evaluation of their services and by using their resume writing services again for an update or revision. Let them know how your resume performs. It will help writer and future client alike.
