This question will be largely debated for years to come, and may never have a concrete answer. The opinions of many are expressed and debated, and as with many topics, many resolve to the "agree to disagree" mentality. The answer lies within the individual, and should simply be defined as a belief. Many people, religious, and non-religious, have a belief supporting or denying the existence of angels, and other-worldly beings.
The clear answer to this question, is that angels are indeed real. The concept of angels is real, just as the concept of a supreme being is real. Humans have the ability to think freely, and to choose what they believe in. The fact that we have this ability does not make any concept itself any less "real". The various ways people describe an angel will lend light as to why this question cannot be answered concretely. With one word, or concept, having so many different variations of existence, it is difficult to prove or disprove its actual physical existence.
The angel "concept" is widespread, throughout many regions and religions. It is widely accpeted as being a divine energy, a source of inspiration, a helping hand, or a soul sent to lead us in life, just to name a few generalized beliefs. With this in mind, one must agree that the "concept" or idea; is indeed real. The tangible, or physical aspect of angels will continue to be debated, but the conceptual aspect of angels is evident and proven. Believers and non-believers alike will agree on the existance of the "concept", but do not agree on the details, or physical ideas tied to the concept.
Have I ever seen an angel? Have I ever spoken to an angel? The simple answer is, not knowingly. I have never had a person or other being identify themselves to me as such, nor have I ever been intrduced to a person who held this title. So the physical aspect, to me, is still unknown, and unseen. Now if you were to ask if I had seen the works of an angel, or been influenced by an angel, the answer would be greatly different. This is because the reference of the question has changed from the physical belief, to the conceptual belief.
In our journey to explore knowledge, and discover things that are currently unknown, we are continually seeking to prove or disprove many ideas. But, the ability to disprove the basic concept of any belief is non-existant. We can disprove the existance of the physical concept of many things, but we will never be able to remove the thought or belief that the concept is real.
