Sugar cookies are considered the holiday cookie. With your trusty cookie cutters, plain white frosting, food coloring and some sprinkles you're all set to make those Christmas cookies.

Ingredients

5 cups all purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cup butter, softened
4 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt

Cream the butter and sugar in a medium sized bowl. Cream until the butter mixture is smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract and stir in the flour, salt and baking powder. Cover and freeze the sugar cookie dough overnight.

Preheat oven for 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and roll till the dough is 1/2 thick. Cut out the cookies with a cookie cutter and place the cookies 2 inches apart from each other on a greased cookie dish. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

Decorate your cookies and set then in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to let your frosting set before you serve your homemade masterpieces.

You can also freeze your cookies. Which is great for the holiday season. With all that baking and cooking that has to be done you can bake a few batches at a time and freeze them so you will have a plentiful supply of sugar cookies to last you all through the holiday season.
