Sarah Palin: Gifted communicator or eternal gaffer?

Can the real Sarah Palin, please stand up!

Let's face it, Tina Fay single-handedly turned Sarah Palin into nothing more than a stuttering simpleton. We all watched Fay peform her spot-on caricature of Palin and it soon became difficult to tell the difference.

The now infamous Katie Couric interview set Palin up for failure leaving her exposed to become the butt of jokes for months to come. Before all of that, there was a glimmer of something exceptional, something profoundly authentic and real that motivated millions of us to want to learn more. That intrigue was never more strong than during the RNC where America was introduced to this captivating Hockey Mom from Alaska.

After being thrust into the spotlight as the Republican pick for Vice President, the question on everyone's mind was "Who is Sarah Palin?"

I myself was a huge Hilary Clinton supporter and the idea of another female in the running was enough to get my attention and so with intrigue and a bit of skepticism, I along with millions of people tuned in to her acceptance speech. She came out strong and confident and my first thought; "Oh she's a pistol!"

In retrospect, I suppose it was actually her speech writer that I liked so well. She gave a great speech! She seemed genuine, confident and knowledgeable. I suppose we all would if we had a teleprompter in front of us. My dear Sarah, what a long fall from grace as my love at first speech for her quickly turned into "Are you kidding me?" once her interview with Katie Couric aired.

The thing about getting people to trust in you starts with what you say and how you say it. I don't know if the McCain machine took over and tried grooming her to the point where she broke or if she really is that uninformed either way, you have to at least be enough of a politician to be able to fake it.

You would think after her beauty pageants she would be able to answer tough questions and think on her feet but it is apparent that Governor Palin is most eloquent when the words are written for her. For goodness sakes lady, you are running for the seat of Vice President, bone up on your Foreign Policy! She would have been better off just admitting, "Hey, I am excited to learn" rather than trying to convince us that because she lives next door to Russia she was prepared to negotiate treaties with the entire world.

If you look at the experience comparison of Barrack Obama and Sarah Palin it can be debatable who has more executive experience however, Obama comes across as more knowledgeable and with greater insight.

The gift of gab should not be under estimated. Being able to motivate, captivate and deliver an eloquent message is the fastest way to instill confidence in your audience. If you add together a couple of stuttering "I'll get back to ya's" mixed in with a "Say it aint so Joe'" all it equals is the possibility a "goof" becoming Vice President and possibly President of this country.

This isn't to say Palin doesn't have potential in fact after some fine tuning and a new haircut who knows? In the meantime leave it to the speech writers.
