I have always seen life as an adventure and because of this, I have been privilaged to see a presentation of true life in an unlikely movie adventure...Disney's Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy. The Pirate Trilogy is a microcosym depicting the unseen reality of another "Adventure, designed and engineered by God, the Designer, for the sole purpose of elevating mankind to the status of sons and daughters. God's plan is the central issue of what life is about. This adventure exists and operates undisturbed by the choices of it's participants, and goes on until God halts time itself. It includes and embraces the saved, the unchurched, even the atheist, and its underlying theme is hope. Many minds, greater than mine, have contributed their ideas to the central message found in these pages, and their remarks quoted here are most appreciated.
Throughout history, God has been communicating with us about His Plan...His Adventure, and He has used various ways to communicate these plans and directions to us. When Christ walked this earth, he used parables, illustrating God's plan for man in short stories that touched each listener where they were. Farmers, soldiers, tax collectors, and even prostitutes were given truths in a form that they could relate to. In the letters of the Apostle Paul in contained in the New Testament, allegory was used often used to convey truth. In his book, "The Christian in Today's Culture", Charles Colson discusses the believers relationship to the arts. He writes:
Just think of the effective way Jesus used images and stories. He could have just said, "Take care of people who are hurt and victimized," Instead, he told the parable of the Prodigal Son. "Why?" you may ask; because a story gets at aspects of the truth that are beyond the power of didactic teaching. Symbols, metaphors allegories, and images move the whole personthe emotions and senses as well as the intellect. The rich evocative words of literature are far more powerful than factual description."
Currently, one of the most effective means of communication is movies. When literature is adapted to the screen, complete with musical score and brilliant special effects, our human emotions and senses, are engaged in a most unique and effective way. A visual parable, if properly presented, can have as an impact far greater than the written or spoken word; perhaps even deeper. Movies shape our culture more than anyone yet realizes. They are a window to life.
In addition, this art form transcends
