Will the people of the United States still be in love with Barack Obama when his first 100 days in office are over? The United States is a divided nation, partly religious and partly secular. It was a close election, almost evenly divided. Whichever side people were on, there were similar problems. Health care insurance and medical bills were heavy burdens. College education has become a goal for children and the costs are high. Pollution and global warming fears show we are destroying our air, land, water, food and our bodies with the way we live our lives.
The United States has encouraged democracy around the world and nations that embraced it are now using up the various resources we need to continue our lifestyle. That has created struggles for us between those people and among people of those nations. It is a divided world, partly religious and partly secular and many in other nations do not want democracy to come into their nations and change their lifestyles.
The war in Iraq, the war on terror in Afghanistan involving other nations and nuclear energy and weaponry were prime problems when Barack Obama first sought the presidency almost two years ago. Now we have added a financial crisis that has spread around the world. Poverty has increased as resources that once produced food, now are producing vegetation for alternative energy. It seems one idea for solution creates a new problem. Jobs are not secure, they are so interconnected, one failure of auto, aircraft, or space industries could disrupt jobs around the nation and world. If the wars end, the military industry goes out of work. The United States and the world are in a box-type situation with corners in each direction and the way out is not clear.
People in the United States and the world had the audacity to hope that this man could give change that could be counted on. Beginning January 20, 2009 the nation will expect to see that change. They do not know what to expect, but they know there must be a change. Life has become too complex and too difficult. The future is a fearsome sight as many have lost retirement funds, savings and investments through the stock market. People are losing their homes and the value of their homes is going down when they expected them to go up and be their security.
The first 100 days of President Obama's leadership will make changes that will determine which way our nation will go, more commercial or more spiritual. He campaigned with a promise to ease restrictions on
