What can I do with a degree in Business?
Most Bachelors degrees in Business Administration have a specific area in which they are focused. The disciplines include, entrepreneurship, communications, accounting, economics, marketing, executive administration, business management, etc. This is not to say that if you have a degree in one discipline that you cannot transition to management positions in another of the disciplines. Many people choose to get multiple degrees in business to make themselves a more versatile and viable job candidate.
The jobs that a degree in business qualifies you for range from administrative and departmental management positions, office management, administrative assistant, financial administration, management of Human Resources, sales and or marketing positions and all kinds of other mid level managerial jobs. A lot depends upon the specialization and the additional elective courses which fill out the compliment of a students' schedule. For example, taking sociology and psychology as electives indicates that you have an interest in how people think and what causes them to engage in certain activities or behaviors. This type of knowledge would be extremely beneficial in a sales or marketing position in determining how and why people buy or what inducement may cause them to buy. Psychology and sociology are also good if you are going into a managerial position which requires a lot of people handling skills, such as project management, department management, business operations and management, training and supervisory roles, etc.
Taking other electives such as Effective Persuasive Writing, Technical Writing, Computer Aided Drafting and Modeling can be equally beneficial depending upon what you want to do with your degree in business. The reason that courses of study allow for and demand elective courses is to help a student to learn or improve their specialized knowledge in other areas beyond their discipline that will make them a more attractive prospect to a potential employer. A degree in business can open a lot of different doors and career opportunities for people. No matter what services or products that a business may sell, offer, or distribute, it is a business, therefore they require capable, educated, and competent people that can step into a management role and perform to the benefit of the business as a whole. Business is almost as general an area of study as Information Technology. You can take a degree from either discipline into literally thousands of different careers and millions of companies. Every job is different and different employers are seeking different facets in their candidates, but a degree in Business is a hardy degree which you can use to get your foot in the door with just about any type of company you can name.
