Weight loss methods: The best way to lose pounds

by Amber Hilton

Have you seen the VH1 show Celebrity Fit Club? For those of you who haven't, the premise is this: a bunch of has-been celebrities compete against each other to see who can lose the most weight. The celebrities have the help of a personal trainer, psychologist and nutritionist to help them along the way.

If you've seen the show, you know that the celebs are on a diet plan provided by the panel nutritionist, Dr. Ian Smith, who has written a popular book outlining what the plan entails.

Whether you need to lose ten pounds or 200 pounds, this diet is fast, safe and effective and you don't need to be a celebrity to afford it. Of course, you should always check with your physician before starting any diet or exercise program.

General overview: The diet, called the "Fat Smash Plan" is a 90-day diet plan consisting of four phases. The first phase is the "Detox phase." This is the strictest phase of the plan, designed to help cleanse your body and mind of impurities. Dr. Ian tells you exactly which foods you are allowed to eat and in what quantity, so there is no room for confusion. Lasting nine days, this is the shortest phase of the Fat Smash Plan and will jump-start your weight loss and get you in the habit of eating healthier foods and smaller portions. While this is the most difficult phase of the diet, it is actually much less restricting than most other diet plans on the market.

The second phase is called the "Foundation", because it is the foundation upon which you will build your new healthy lifestyle. In this phase, more foods are added to the list.

In phases three (Construction) and four (The Temple), you continue to add more food options into your diet. Now you are allowed to eat the foods you have been missing, like pizza or chocolate chip cookies. By now, you should have learned about portion control and making healthy choices, so you can eat these things without returning to your old bad habits.

The whole idea behind the "Fat Smash Plan" is to create healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime. It is not like some other diets, which help you lose the weight quickly, but are so restrictive that you end up gaining it all right back, usually with a few pounds to spare. In order for a diet plan to work, it has to be something that you can maintain and most of us still want to be able to have dessert once in a while.

Another important aspect of the Fat Smash Plan is the concept of eating several small meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism going strong. An exercise plan is provided as well, which increases in intensity with each phase of the diet.

Besides being fast and effective, this diet is great because when you do inevitably slip up and gain a few pounds, you can go back to phase one for a few days to get yourself back on track.

The best thing about the Fat Smash Plan is that you don't need to be a wealthy celebrity to afford it. Dr. Ian Smith has published his "Fat Smash Diet" so that anyone can benefit from his years of experience. I got my copy at Wal-Mart for only ten dollars. As an added bonus, the book also includes 50 healthy recipes to keep things interesting.

Unlike so many of the diet products on the market these days, this isn't a gimmick or a fad. Dr. Ian is a trusted medical professional who has spent years developing this plan and has seen it work time and time again. So, what are you waiting for? Start smashing those old habits and start seeing the new slimmer, sexier, healthier you!
