When Barack Obama was running against Hillary Clinton I was not sure that this country was ready for either a female or African American in the White House. Then Mr. Obama won the nomination and I thought that John McCain had every door opened to him.

Then John McCain brought Sarah Palin into the spotlight and every door suddenly slammed shut.

I do feel sorry for Ms. Palin because true or not, the perception is that she was brought in to capture the "Clinton" vote; to entice people that would have voted for Hillary Clinton to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.

What an insult to Hillary Clinton. What an insult to Sarah Palin. What an insult to the American voter!

From day 1 Sarah was struggling to reach the lofty hights that she was supposed to attain.

When Charlie Gibson asked about her qualifications in foreign policy, she said that she knew a lot about foreign policy because you could see Russia from Alaska. Well, I can see the space shuttle on its launch pad in Florida but that doesn't make me rocket scientist!

Technically Sarah was correct, you can see Russia from Alaska. You do have to travel to a tiny, obscure island off the coast of Alaska and then, in the distance you can see another tiny, obscure island belonging to Russia. A small stretch of the truth?

When asked if she had ever met a foreign head of state she replied that she hadn't but that other previous Vice Presidents would say the same. So reporters asked the 4 living former VP's the same question and each of them had a very different response to Sarah.

Sarah has been presented as a working mother who, "Knows what it is like to raise a child with special needs" promoting her youngest child's Autism. This baby is 6 months old She will know what it is like to raise a child with special needs by the time the baby is in his teens but right now she does not have any idea. What an insult to those families that have raised children with special needs.

In the same interview Sarah showed that she didn't even have a good handle on the affairs of her own State of Alaska when she stated that Alaska produces nearly 20% of America's energy. Unfortunately for Sarah, the U.S. Energy Information Administration records the production of energy by Alaska as 3.5%. Alaska did produce 14% of the domestic oil but that is only one piece of the energy pie along with nuclear, coal, hydro, wind, etc.

When asked by Katie Couric what publications she had read to keep up to date on current affairs, Sarah answered "All of them". When Katie pressed her to mention which ones, Sarah got flustered, waving her arms around saying, "All of them. Whatever has anything....". So Katie asked her to name one and she again said "All of them." Perhaps an ordinary working mother doesn't have time to read?

I don't think Sarah is a gifted communicator neither do I think she is an eternal gaffer. She is simply a woman who was exploited by the party to try to dupe a gullible public. Unfortunately, she isn't smart enough to know what she doesn't know. Neither is she a good enough actress to bluff her way through difficult interviews. She tried very hard to be what she was supposed to be but a square peg in a round hole will always fall out!
