Best High School Movies

We all love high school movies. You know the movies with the cliques, prom dances and strange humor. Who can forget Ferris Bueller or Andie Walsh? Here is the latest report card for the movies that made the honor roll.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High stars Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cats, Nicholas Cage and Judge Reinhold. This movie was a huge hit back in the early 1980's. The film follows the life of several high school freshmen. Jennifer Jason Leigh plays Stacy Hamilton who works at the local pizza parlor with Linda Barrett, played by Phoebe Cates. Stacy has her first sexual encounter with a much older man who ends up dumping her later. She then dates a nerd named Mark Ratner, played by Brian Backer. Stacy attempts to seduce Mark, to no avail. She then hooks up with Mark's friend Damone who is played by Robert Romanus. Stacy becomes pregnant with his child, has an abortion and then tries to hook back up with Mark Ratner. It is a cute teen comedy.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 high school comedy starring Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones and Jennifer Grey. Ferris (played by Matthew Broderick) liked to skip school and did so several times throughout the semester. On this particular day off, he and his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) decide to hang out in downtown Chicago for the day. They spend the day trying to avoid capture by the high school principle (played by Jeffrey Jones), Bueller's revengeful sister Jeanie (played by Jennifer Grey) and Bueller's parents (played by Lyman Ward and Cindy Pickett). The cool thing about this movie is that the film sometimes stops as Bueller explains his thoughts and techniques.

Sixteen Candles has to be the ultimate high school movie. I have seen this movie at least 20 times. It is one of my favorite. This movies stars Molly Ringwald as Sam, Blanche Baker as Ginny, Michael Schoeffling as Jake, Anthony Michael Hall as The Geek and John Cusack as Bryce. Sam's family has forgotten her 16th birthday because Sam's older sister, Ginny, is getting married the next day. Sam's day gets worse when she realizes that her sex quiz that was intended for her best friend but instead was intercepted by her dream man, Jake Ryan. But there is another guy who wants Sam's attention and that is The Geek. He has made a bet with his friends regarding Sam. Sam and The Geek becoming friends and she tells him she is in love with Jake. The Geek crashes a party at Jake's house and during a conversation, they make a deal regarding Sam. You have to watch the movies to find out how it ends.

So head over to your local movie rental place and get your hands on these must-see high school movies.
