Of course, absolutely yes! Energy independence should be our first priority in the US and probably, as it looks now, about the only thing that will strengthen America. The focus must be on clean, sustainable, renewable energy, here on American land.

While many make the argument for drilling oil here in America, I feel that that this is undesirable. We'd be creating more fossil fuels polluting the planet; disturbing ecosystems; risking more oil spills and giving more power to big oil. Like they need more power. More power to raise their oil prices whenever they feel like it, leaving us at their mercy. I say nix to that.

SOLAR

Instead, a solution lies in solar energy, especially in the SW USA and Southern CA, where sun is most plentiful. Tax-breaks for everyone doing this. Let's phase out nuclear energy hopefully by 2015? I recently heard of a car that is already running on solar. Why the heck not?

WIND

And wind energy in states with lots of wind. And how about tornado alley? How about placing those windmills near that alley that covers the most tornado prone states. Lots of wind power there.

The same goes for hurricanes, the gale forces hitting mostly Florida and the East Coast. Place the windmills there, assuming that there is a safe place to erect those windmills so that they don't become uprooted airborne missiles. I'll let the scientists figure that one out.

And how about combining wind and solar for the vehicle? When the car moves, it creates wind. When it stops, it uses the solar, or alcohol from plant/food distillation as fuel.

WATER

Water scarcity? The solution lies in several things:

1) Water conservation enforced in every state.

2) Tax-breaks for those using rain-barrel collecting so that they don't depend on the city's water supply.

3) A moratorium on wasteful water practices such as golf courses. Instead how about a golf course that uses a permaculturally-designed landscape, recycling their own rainwater for trees.

4) Tax-credits for those who plant trees.

ALCOHOL

Instead of drinking it, using it to power vehicles. Distilled from plants and food, it is clean, non-polluting fuel. Go to David Blume's website alcoholcanbeagas.com and read all about it. Buy a conversion kit for your car. Soon as I can afford it, something I will do. Or buy a distillery and make your own. This guy has the answer to our fuel needs. Someone give David a medal or the Nobel Peace Prize for showing us the way to get off big oil, little oil, oil period. No oil needed.
