Cosmetology is quickly becoming one of the most lucrative professions, boasting a $60 billion industry. To truly become a successful Cosmetologist, you must have a passion for the industry as well as a genuine interest in people. This is not a career choice that should made half-heartedly. Obtaining your Cosmetology license takes hours of study, practice, 100% commitment, lots of Band-Aids and a sense of humor. If you're convinced without a shadow of a doubt that this is the career for you, then let's get started!

Where do I start?

In most states, you are required to have a minimum of 1500 hours practical training from a licensed Cosmetology school before you can even apply to take your State Boards Exam. Full Cosmetology programs can be found at most Community Colleges and there are numerous_Beauty_Schools across the nation, specializing in Cosmetology. You will also need to find your particular state's Licensure_requirements before taking your exam.

How long is this going to take?

Most schools and colleges offer a program that can be completed by a full-time student in two years. The goal is 1500 hours of practical training, so if you're only able to attend part-time, it would take longer than two years.

How much will this cost me?

A general range for tuition can run anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the school's location, hourly requirements and facility equipment. Check with your choice of school's Financial Aid Office for details on assistance that may be available.

What can I expect after I start school?

Your first quarter will be spent learning the core theories of Cosmetology. You will also be required to complete your core basic courses such as English, Basic Math and Psychology.

Curriculum varies from school to school, but the common practice is to work in a real salon setting after you've completed your first quarter. This will allow you to gain hands-on experience and learn the steps of Salon Management.

When I can I take my State Board Exam?

Upon obtaining your Cosmetology degree, you are free to apply to your state's_examination_board.

What type of career options do I have?

* Cosmetologist

* Hair Color Specialist

* Perm Specialist

* Esthetician

* Nail care Artist

* Manicurist/Pedicurist

* Salon Manager

* Platform Artist

* Fashion Show Stylist

* Makeup Artist
