Natural Disasters:
I read an article today on the net; That dealt with wild fires in Northern California. When I started reading the article by the writer named Shaya Tayefe Mohajer...I was amazed at the devastation that was being aided by what is refered to in California as Santa Ana winds. These winds are as fierce as the tropical winds that precede a hurricane that brews in the southern Atlantic ocean.
The winds reach speeds of 76 mph or greater....now to give you an idea how fast and how strong winds at that speed are....imagine you are in a car rolling at 75mph or greater and you stick your head out the window and open your mouth. Your jaws would inflate as though you were trying to blow up a balloon...Now throw a little fire into the equation at that speed and "PRESTO!"....you have homes being burnt up in Northern California almost like a flash fire in a tunnel!
What really amazes me about the whole ordeal... is that fires like that have been going on in California for as long as I can remember! Maybe it's just me but....why have'nt anyone informed the city leaders of an old technique that my dad and all the other country living people have known about for years!
I grew up on a farm....and that meant that there were no shortages of open fields... with plenty of dry grass all around these houses; We did not have a fire department to save the day in case a fire broke out. Back in the day...me and my bestest friend got in a lot of trouble with my dad for playing with matches in one of those fields!....needless to say, we sat the field on fire!
and the only reason that the fire did not burn down our neighbors house... was because it burned out when it got to the green grass of the neighbors yard! My whole point about this is that....my dad and most of the people living there learned something from our little mishap!...either they learned from it,or they remembered something from the past....either way some years they would go out and burn all the dry grass around the house. As you may have already figured out the reason for this...is because if you BURN the grass around the house before it can catch on fire and burn down your house...you would have solved the problem of your house burning down because of a fire from outside your house.
So, why won't the leaders of these little citys and towns burn the grass around their neighborhoods before the fire can burn uncontrolled....and therefore prevent a serious loss of property and or fire damage.
Finally, as I have said before....so say I now again "Cultivation is key and Knowledge is Power!"

Upon quiet reflection it's not exactly clear when life morphed into what I now term, my own personal 'natural disaster'.
