Hydrocodone is a prescribed medication, predominately for cough and upper respiratory ailments. A wide variety of medicines may contain hydrocodone in combination with other medications. Anyone with a known allergy to this or to codeine should avoid this medication.
As a cough suppressant, this is a very effective choice. This is usually prescribed in increments dependent upon the weight of the patient. It may be in a liquid or gel-tab form. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Initially, this medication may cause drowsiness, tiredness, or loss of concentration which may improve after continued use, however, if it becomes bothersome, report this to your doctor immediately.
Hydocodone may cause a slight irritation to the stomach. It is usually advisable to take it after a meal. Seniors are especially susceptible to side effects. Medication may need to be adjusted accordingly by the physician.
As with all medications, talk with your doctor and pharmacist about any concerns, and questions.
