With Spring Break approaching, many students have already taken the plunge and bought plane tickets to far away, exotic places. Let's face it though, college students aren't exactly known for being the richest people and could use some help on getting the most for their money. What follows is a listing of how to travel efficiently during Spring Break and how to save money in the process.
1. Do Your Homework!
Before you travel, read up about the area. The internet is always a great resource for this and will be the most important part of your research. Check to see if the place you want to visit has student rates. Airlines have a tendency to jack up the prices of tickets during Spring Break because they know many students will be traveling, but there are quite a few websites that offer cheap prices for numerous different airlines:

2. Look For Free Papers
Once you arrive at your destination, make sure to look around for free newspapers either in the airport or at your hotel. These places will usually have stacks of free newspapers and pamphlets at your disposal, in which you can find coupons for various attractions, restaurants, and even different hotels around the area you'll be staying in. I know it may sound like something your coupon-clipping grandmother would do, but by doing so, spring breakers can keep expensive costs down. Often, there are deals for free meals or fifty percent off the price of certain attractions.
3. Share the Costs of Purchases
This is always a smart idea when traveling in a group of people, as most students do. For example, renting a car can get expensive if you stay in a location for the whole week of Spring Break. If you need to rent a car while on vacation, have one person pay for the first day, another the second day, and so forth. You can do this with almost anything you buy, and I think you will find that it proves to be a very effective way of spending money.
4. Talk to Locals
Talking to the locals in any area is by far one of the most cost effective things a vacationer can do. They usually know all the best, inexpensive places to eat and where to go to find the cheapest things to do because they know the area so well. If you get lucky, perhaps someone might even take you on a tour around the area. This is usually good to do when you first arrive because then you'll get a clearer picture of what you can do while you're on vacation.
