Talking and texting on the cell phone while driving increases your chances of getting into an accident over 4 times! Do you still want to drive and talk while risking a 400 percent accident increase?
How many times have you seen people yapping away on the cell phone when the light is green and they are involved in a conversation as if they are talking in bed? I usually stand on my horn to get these idiots moving. Soon enough they realize they are driving a multi-thousand pound vehicle that can take a life as quick as a flashbulb going off. After a few seconds pause, they reluctantly crawl away, more concerned with their conversation than watching the road! Talk about frustration, these morons don't even realize they are on the road driving, let alone supposed to be paying attention. This insanity has to stop.
When cell phones first became popular, they were great to have in the car for safety reasons. I have one, and use it sparingly as well. If I need to speak to someone, I'll either pull over or wait until I'm home. Didn't we live before cell phones added to our gadget crazy life? The next time you are driving around, notice how many people are talking on these infernal devices. You will be amazed as it seems close to half of the people are talking on them when they are supposed to be paying attention to the road. No, the road is too boring to look at and talking to your friends is more interesting anyway. These people will have plenty of time to talk to their friends when they're lay-ed up in a hospital bed nursing their wounds, that's if they survive the crash. Because that's what's going to happen, and that's what is happening more and more. Cell phones are just as dangerous and maybe more than driving drunk. At least the drunk is looking at the road and not talking in wonderland looking around like a bobble-head doll!
Thank God laws are finally being enacted in some states where it's illegal to talk and drive at the same time. Not being particularly fond of laws myself, this one is important and should be enforced to the full extent of the law. It's just too dangerous to be talking and driving at the same time. Some of these people can't chew gum and walk at the same time let alone drive! How many times have you been in the left hand lane on the highway or freeway and seen one of these nincompoops going forty miles per hour when the speed limit is sixty-five or seventy? And they don't realize you're behind them! I like to pull around them and go slower. Of course I'll only do this if there are no other cars around, but it does send them the message. Soon enough they pull over, arms and head flailing as they're involved in some important conversation about how to make their clothes whiter with the right detergent or some such nonsense. Get the hell off the road!
Please let's get real and be safe about our driving, and if you are one of these morons that can't live without talking on your cell every few minutes, I hope your next conversation is in the rest area or it might be from a hospital bed....
