for some reasons, stands up in the world and preaches its evolution as a role model to follow... still uses the death penalty in 36 states! They call it capital punishment... and use it against murder, conspiracy to commit murder and treason (then of course, the jurisdictions have their owns ways to apply it ; source: Wikipedia). It sounds fair... but is it really so?

A child rapist sentenced to death... one should think it is the best punishment... I am sorry to say that I do not believe it is. It is revenge... collective revenge, but not punishment. The criminal is dead, he won't do it again for sure... another will though! Was the lesson learnt? No, it was not. Everybody needs a second chance... I would not go that far. There are crimes that cannot be forgiven (only God has the absolute power of forgiveness in these situation, I believe). Life imprisonment, not death, for the criminal. Why? Think... there are psychological ways to make such a person pay for the horror(s) committed. Is it awful what I am saying? Is it inhumane? Is it barbaric? Yes, of course it is... but so is the crime committed...

If one kills such a criminal, the society from which that he/she came from remains sick. It's like cutting the visible part of a tumour... eventually, the root of the tumour will infect the healthy parts again.

Since man exists, many crimes have always been horrible, and it is not particular to the United States. Human beings are supposed to be this great, evolved and smart species. No we are not... the death penalty would not exist anymore if we were. Instead of killing criminals, society should learn to listen, to look, to understand where the crime is coming from. Easy to say, yes... Revenge however never solved any crisis.

Why are there criminals? People are not born evil, they become evil! Why? What do we do, as communities, to make sure that it never happens again? We kill the culprits... and it happens again... obviously, that method is not working!

The problem today, or at least one of them, is money. We all can relate to that, can we not. There is money though. What are governments using the money they have (mainly from tax payers) for?

Get a team that works around the clock to mend the community, because bottom line, this is where criminals are coming from. Criminals are the disease of society... a virus... how do you get rid of a virus, you find a cure!

Should United States ban the death penalty?
Yes, they definitely should!
And so should the 109 other countries that still use or permit its use.
