Testimonies: Searching for Prince Charming

by Brianna Covell

I have decided that it is completely pointless to find that one romance in life that everyone says is there "you just have to find the right person". For all you know, that right person lives in Zanzibar or some far distant country and you will never meet. Or They could be living in the same state and city as you and you just never happen to cross paths in life. So therefore that is why everyone is settling for their "silver medal" their "runner up" or whoever came in last place.

I do believe in a perfect relationship and a soulmate. I just don't think anyone really finds it. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I think I am merely being realistic. Stop reading romance novels and watching chick flicks because it only makes real life more depressing. It makes you think, "why can't my boyfriend love me like that?", "Why can't he do romantic things like that?" You wanna know why? The guys in movies like that are made up... Guys in real life don't act like that because they are real. Real guys are jerks, forget anniversaries, belch, fart, never say the right thing, and when you test their love by walking out of their lives they aren't going to come chasing after you begging you to take them back.

People never change, or stray too far from the path they've been on their whole lives. If they hurt you, they'll continue to hurt you as they always have. The good guys will always be good guys, well at least until they leave because they are tired of hearing what jerks "all men" are. Women are gluttons for punishment. We will always choose the jerk over the nice guy. I don't know why, maybe it's programmed into our genetic code... By the time we realized we made a huge mistake, its too late and the good guy is already gone. Then there are the lucky few who actually see the guy for what they really are and not even go for him at all.

The problem is, most women date and marry men who don't respect them or love them as they are. Women are not perfect, maybe a little crazy at times, but they still deserve that love and respect. They also deserve to be treated as an equal, not just some subserviant that men think of only when they want something. Why is it that women are drawn to broken men who have been damaged by some woman in their lives? Why is it that they think they can change them? No one ever changes, not unless they want to and unfortunatley for women, most men are perfectly content being slobs, inconsiderate, unfeeling, selfish jerks. I am tired of seeing women being treated as though they don't know anything, that they don't have a functional brain cell in their head.

I am like most women. I want love, I want romance, I want a guy to love me completely forever and always. He'll be the Ross to my Rachel, the Noah to my Allie, the Cory to my Topanga. I just want that one great love, the one that is the be all end all thing. I want a guy to come in and sweep me off my feet do fast I won't know what hit me. I guess we are all dreamers. A few of us are lucky and meet those rare guys that are everything they are looking for and more. I haven't given up yet... My advice is to just keep dreaming and be optimistic... Prince Charming is around here somewhere...
