You heard it here first. Well actually, you heard it on FoxNews this morning if you were listening really carefully as Rep. Charlie Rangel was finishing an interview. He made an aside comment on the "lynching of Saddam Hussein." I don't think the news anchors even heard it or maybe they were too stunned to respond. But I heard it clear as day as I poured myself a cup of coffee. Rep. Rangel, D-NY said Saddam Hussein was lynched.
Webster's defines lynch as "to murder someone by the decision of a mob, without a lawful trial." No, there was a trial. Anyone who breathed last year heard about it at least once. And I would hardly categorize the Iraqi Supreme Court as a mob. So, that definition does not apply. Yes, we can argue about the propriety and decorum shown at the execution. But come on, if you piss off that many people, you know it is all going to end badly.
When we hear the word lynch, it brings to mind pictures in history books of black men hanging from trees, after being accused of questionable crimes and being attacked by angry mobs. I don't believe you will find many people in the US today who feel this is a "tradition" we should resurrect. I find it absolutely reprehensible that Representative Rangel would use the term "lynching" to describe the execution of such a diabolical man. You would be hard pressed to find a dozen people in any city in America to defend the monster. And yet, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, good old Charlie Rangel has to drop the L word on us all just to get a little publicity maybe?
Well, I wasn't fooled. I know a traitor when I see one. How dare he? Every American should be deeply offended. Every person who worked to secure civil rights for black people in this country should be deeply offended. The families and descendants of those who were lynched should be deeply offended. The survivors of Saddam Hussein's reign of terror should be deeply offended. Basically, if you are on Earth, you should be offended. Saying Saddam Hussein was lynched is akin to saying Adolf Hitler was persecuted by the media and his suicide was a result of low self-esteem. Anyone want that side in a debate? I didn't think so.
Is Rep. Rangel so desperate to distinguish himself among his fellow Democrats that he is willing to go out on such a limb? What could he have been thinking? Does he really believe what he said? If he does, then we are all in danger. If even a small contingent of those controlling the Congress of the United States of America feel the execution
