Affiliate Marketing is slowly becoming the number one source of making money online and it is without a doubt that there is money to be made from this industry.

Though the money is good but as this industry continue to grow with the internet revolution (the Web 2.0 Trend), it is getting tougher for the average affiliate marketer to really make money online.

If you are new to the affiliate marketing term, it is normally known as a Third Party Transaction involving an affiliate (can be anybody that is interested to promote the product) and a Product Owner in exchange for a commission (a percentage of the final or recurring sale).

In an online context, a common form of an affiliate transaction can be that a person seeks for information (e.g. how to lose weight) on the internet to solve a particular issue (lose weight with normal diet), and you, being the affiliate, could have done your bit by promoting your links all over the necessary sites.

The person found your link, did a click-through, pleased with the sales page and information, made a purchase and you get the sale and the commission!

The earliest method of promoting an affiliate is the use of banner ads (with your affiliate link) or the promotion of your affiliate link in a text-link format. An affiliate can promote this marketing tools using article marketing or the forum (these two are common advertising grounds).

Frequent promoting of these links can result in good sales as the conversion rates for these are high and competition is usually low. The early bird effects normally come into play.

In general there is good money to be made!

As the internet evolves, more people are coming online and becoming interested to explore ways to make money online. We are also having a current trend whereby we are seeing Blogs, Pay-Per-Click, and Social Networks appearing all over the net space (a Web 2.0 Evolution).

With this, the earliest advertising method of using banner links and text links is not that effective anymore. Many people have to look for alternative methods to advertise their affiliate links.

Alternative methods like competing for keywords in Pay-Per-Click campaigns and Search Engine Rankings and using Landing Pages and Review Sites are becoming the common trend of advertising now.

The learning curve for these methods is much steeper than before. With the learning curve also comes with higher commitment like advertising costs and competitions. Therefore for a new affiliate marketer to start making money early and faster will be much tougher than before.

In summary, as long as people are looking for information online and there are products created to solve these issues that people are concerned with - there is always money to be made in affiliate marketing.

But do note that, affiliate marketing is not that an easy industry to get in and to make money faster in today's context. Be prepared to compete and to take on a faster learning curve.
