It's that time again; time to decide who will lead our Country forward. This election seems more subdued than I remember the last one being. American's for the most part seem to be happy with our President. The past four years have not been a breeze. He never promised us a rose garden. He said it would be an uphill battle to get our country back on track. Looking around as I drive down the streets I can see the inroads he has made. There are construction crews working on the bridges, making our infrastructure safer and making a living for their families, not relying on the welfare. The corner market didn't have to shut its doors like we all feared would happen. We are finally out of Iraq, our brave men and women have come home. We have come a long way in uniting our country. President Obama said he would be everyone's President and he has.
The first year was the most difficult. We were so entrenched in the war in Iraq and so depressed as a nation with a failing economy that it didn't seem possible anyone could change our path. President Obama started making changes right away. He, along with Congress and Senate, made sure families didn't lose their homes. He stopped the needless spending and started focusing on getting America back on its feet. Sure, there were balkers, those who had the most and had to pay a little more in taxes, but look at us now. We still have homeless, that will never be totally fixed, but at least now we don't have people losing their lifesavings because of a handful of greedy investors.
We still have a strong military and help out where we are needed, but we don't go sticking our noses in where we don't belong and we pull out when we should. Our men and women don't go out fighting battles they don't need to fight. President Obama said he would go after Osama Bin Laden and he did. College kids are wearing t-shirts touting "Obama got Osama".
His term in office has been refreshing. Doors that have been closed for so many years no longer even exist. The White House seems more like the house down the road. President Obama and his family have made it more family oriented. The change he talked about during his campaign has been a breath of fresh air, a vibe that resonates through the air. Main Street America no longer feels repressed or like the underdog. We feel capable and able to do anything.
Yes, President Obama deserves to be re-elected. He deserves the opportunity to finish what he has started. Four years was just enough time to get his programs started, just enough time to put the wheels of change in motion. What a travesty it would be if he were not in office to his goals reach completion. He made history by winning the election; by turning a failing economy around and restoring faith in the United States of America.
President Obama and his family have been a blessing to the White House, a shining example of what so many people believe about our country. A man who pulled himself up by his bootstraps and made something of his life and now has made our country a better place to be. Yes, I'll be pulling the lever today to keep him in office for another term; I hope the rest of the country does the same.
