With our economy in shambles, two wars, low consumer confidence, and political division; there is much President-Elect Obama will have to do in his first 100 days in office. The task of trying to bring the country out a recession and getting it back on track economically, should be his top priority. With unemployment at an eleven year high, Americans are afraid of what will become of their future in this country. People are losing not only their jobs, but their homes and their savings. The world also sees the decline of the Greatest Nation on earth and wonders what is happening. We must get back to our rightful place in the world's eyes. President Obama will need to do a lot in the first 100 days to secure the economic future of this country.
First, reform of the financial systems needs to be implemented. Banks and other financial institutions should be required to be completely transparent about the way they loan money. Also, full disclosure of assets and losses should be made public. Regulations to insure these institutions are not taking advantage of the borrowers should also be implemented. Congress gave the financial markets $700 billion to fix the problem. This money has already been shown to have been mismanaged by those it was intended to help. Oversight is a must when trying to save these institutions and our money.
Secondly, Obama needs to find ways to tax those companies who have taken their businesses out of the country, which have in turn taken money and jobs from the American worker. There are plenty of qualified workers in this country, who are willing to do the job. There have been some corporate CEOs who have stated they cannot find qualified workers in the United States to do the jobs and have sent these resources overseas. When in actuality they are only sending those jobs overseas because of cheaper labor and a larger profit margin. Tax-breaks should be given to companies who remain on American soil. Companies who take jobs out of this country, should be heavily taxed. This would discourage the practice of outsourcing jobs, and maybe bring labor back to the United States.
Thirdly, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are draining our country. Afghanistan should be our focus in the hunt for Bin Laden and fighting terrorism. Obama needs to find a feasible plan to get our troops out of Iraq. Complete withdrawal, from Iraq, in the next two years would be feasible. Relocating troops to Afghanistan, would better benefit our cause; and relieve troops
