Total Makeovers on a Limited Budget.
One day you look in the mirror and ask, "Is that me? I look like hell. When did this happen? What happened? I used to be so cute!"
You know us Americans, we like to shorten everything. So instead of telling someone you like their hair and their tan and their nails etc. etc., we cinch it all together and call it a makeover. So now it's, " Wow, you look great! Did you get a makeover?" Of course we are totally validated and rejuvenated at that moment and as the day goes on, our ego and self confidence rises. You have accomplished a great makeover not only on the outside but on the inside as well and best of all it didn't cost a fortune.
There are lots of different kinds of makeovers and only you know what type of makeover you need. This is the hardest part to figure out, because you may need makeovers in lots of areas of your life. Maybe for balance or for peace or for getting back on that horse after it threw ya. I don't know about you, but unless a celebrity sends a crew to my house, I'm not getting a professional makeover any time soon. In this day and time most of us are strapped for cash and to get a professional makeover is too expensive. Here are some suggestions for a quick, inexpensive, do-it-yourself makeover for around $30 to $80.
Step 1: Go to the tanning bed, if that's your thing. It usually costs around $3 to $ 5 per visit. You will need at least 5 visits for a nice color and base tan which you only have to maintain about once a week. A booth or a bed is relaxing and can also help with depression, fibromyalgia, anxiety and stress. I always say, "Tan fat looks better than white fat." A tan covers discoloration on your face and your body, but mostly I like the person I see in the mirror. Its what I do when I need a little ego boost or pick me up. Or you can choose not to abuse your skin and get a spray tan, which looks really good and has instant results. (Don't get the do it yourself spray tan, it looks bad!) This is usually reasonably priced around $20 to $30 and gives a boost to your self esteem and confidence and not to mention an instant tan.
Step 2: Get some over the counter hair color. Lots of hair colors on the market today are very good and include fabulous conditioners. If you want to get your hair cut, do it before you color. Over the counter hair color usually costs around $7 to $20 and gives great condition, body boost and healthier looking hair. I do not recommend a drastic change, subtle is better. If you want highlights, you can get a triple blend hair color or a highlighting kit. Wait two weeks to color if you've just had a perm.
Step 3: Polish your finger nails and toe nails. Nail polish usually runs between $5 to $10 and it lasts forever so you really get your money's worth. After you polish, make sure you get a strong clear coat so your polish lasts longer. The rule is: toes about every 3 weeks and fingers every week. Every time you look at your fingers and toes you will be pleased with yourself and that will give you another boost of confidence.
Step 4: If you need to, whiten your teeth. What a difference a smile makes, especially a clean, white, healthy one. Over the counter tooth whiteners will work but you have to be patient and give them time to work. A tan can also make your teeth look whiter and if you can wear a slightly dark lipstick that will help too.
Step 5: If you are heavy, buy clothes that flatter your best assets, like your breasts or your but or wherever you have places you are embarrassed about. New clothes means retail therapy which is another way to boost your confidence. I can't afford to even go to the mall so I shop at Salvation Army and consignment stores. I also shop at Family Dollar and Kmart because they always have cute clothes for plus size women. No tents, if you know what I mean.
Well, that's it! So simple but adds so much difference in the way you feel about yourself. Makeovers are just what the doctor orders for a boost of self esteem and confidence. A new you will emerge on the outside and the inside, not to mention it's a lot of fun.
