or racing. The Jack Russell Terrier and Greyhound both benefit from racing after an object- set up a maze in your yard to entice him with a toy while you run the sidelines. Enroll any energetic dog into agility training for excellent improvement with energy and behavior.

- Maintain a Consistent Routine-

Do not allow hyperactive behavior under any circumstance- this requires adequate exercise. Only show affection when the dog is calm and relaxed so you do not encourage unwanted behaviors. If he jumps on people, refuse to pet him unless he sits and instruct others to do likewise. Command him to sit before leaving or entering your home and you must enter before him. Only allow him on furniture with your invitation. Commanding every behavior of a dog teaches him the boundaries and expectations of submission. When properly exercised, dogs are highly receptive to training and positive behavior.

Dogs sense our moods and energy through their sharp perception, so we must focus on ourselves when handling them. When we are anxious- they are anxious. Use every available resource and ounce of power to remain calm, confident and collected. Do not yell or physically punish a dog when he misbehaves- redirect him to an appropriate behavior.

Helping an energetic rescue dog requires some effort and energy, but the process is equally rewarding for the dog and people involved. View the rehab of an energetic dog as an opportunity to get some exercise. The effort of helping him regain normalcy will reward you both with a loving, nourishing home.
