Hugh Laurie also known as Dr. Gregory House an arrogant, egotistical, cynical, self centered doctor who in my opinion is a mad genius. If anyone I knew was to fall ill all of a sudden, a doctor like House may not be appealing at first, I would want him to be the main doctor on the case. House is known for his great gift, while it may at times be unethical, to give people what they need, after a few tries, to get back to their own lives. Would I want House to be my doctor, or a doctor like House? Absolutely, House being as much of a pain as he is usually in the end results are favorable when 99% of his patents are diagnosed and treated for the ailment they have. Even if the disease is untreatable House still figures out what is wrong with that particular person.
Although I can not give all the credit to House, because he has always had an amazing team behind him. From season one to the current season five he has always picked a well rounded team of doctors. I am sure it is no accident that he picks these doctors with very different life styles, views, and opinions. I can however credit House with passing his will, intelligence, and determination down to his team. Doctors are always learning no matter how much they may know and House is always putting that theory to the test, as he does to may other things. Putting the team aside House would be fine with or with out them because he is, amazingly, has many friends to keep him in line.
House is all about thinking outside the box. Thinking outside the box has benefited House and almost everyone he has treated treated more than staying with the traditional forms he was taught in medical school. I would personally prefer a doctor who has knowledge from both books and experience, than a doctor with just book smarts or a doctor with only real life experience. When you have one and not the other there is a huge margin for error, if the doctor is drawing from both that margin is heavily decreased. Some doctors in other countries have not gone to medical school they treat people based on the way they were taught how to, the flaw to this method being they are basing the treatment on a specific disease they believe it is and treat it like they have seen in the past. What if someone has a different disease with similar if not exact symptoms. That doctor would treat them the wrong way. The same applies to doctors with only book smarts, because they may know what that person has and how to treat it but at the same time is the treatment they provide the best treatment for that patent.
House has all the components to make the best doctor. I know House is only a TV doctor, but in my opinion doctors could really learn from this TV doctor. House shows true passion for his work, even though at times he is very secretive about it. The real life doctors hopefully see it and take that passion from House and apply it to themselves and what they do. Th passion that House has drives him to help people in need. Thats why I would want House as my doctor. House not only has the tools to get the job done but he is also cleaver enough to know how to get that job done.
