The scrapbooking industry has made it super easy to make delightful home made birthday cards. Craft shops, dollar stores, discount stores all carry a wide range of scrapbooking supplies these days, and there are also many specialty shops that carry only the scrapbooking supplies.
With the plentiful variety available, it can be affordable and easy to make unique birthday cards that are personalized for the recipient. Scrapbook embellishments range from the very simple to the highly detailed. Subject matter and themes are in no short order, and the paper choices are just as wonderful and varied.
To make a memorable birthday card, first choose a nice heavy card stock. I have been told that Bazill makes a nice very high-quality card stock, available in a vast array of shades and hues. Next, pick out a complimentary designed paper. The scrapbooking aisles are filled with themed papers for each season of the year, cartoon characters, scenic pictures and more. Cut this designed paper a size smaller than the card stock to create a layered, or framed look. More than one color can be used. You can choose to be as elaborate or as simple as you want to be.
Next come the embellishments, or stickers. To make the most memorable card, think of a theme that the recipient can relate to. Perhaps a favorite hobby like bingo or bowling, a favorite animal or pet, or favorite sport. Make the card as personalized as possible by using stickers and embellishments that portray his or her interests.
One example might be a card for a young girl who takes dance lessons. There are many stickers that can be found in the dance theme such as ballet slippers, and dancers doing pirouettes. What a great way to personalize a birthday card but making it all about the birthday girl!
Another card might be for an older gentleman who enjoys fishing or boating. Look through the aisles of scrapbooking supplies and you are sure to find stickers of fish, tackle boxes, and the like.
Be creative when you arrange the stickers and embellishments on the card. Leave room for a greeting as well. You can purchase alphabet stickers in sizes ranging from the miniscule to very large, as well as in a variety of fonts and shapes. You may want to personalize the card with the person's name, or maybe just create letters to write a message like "Happy Birthday, Grandma!" The choices are endless, but no matter what you decide on, you know it's going to be a one-of-a kind card made with lots of thought, and plenty of detail.
Lastly, be sure to add a creative phrase, saying or quote to the inside of the card. For those who are not prolific writers, these sayings are available as stickers as well and can be purchased pre-made in the same department as the scrapbooking supplies. For those who want to include a more personalized greeting, add a matching sticker or two on the inside of the card, and inscribe your message with a color-coordinating pen or marker. There is not limit to what you can do. The best part is that it is personalized, memorable, and the recipient is sure not to get two alike!
