Pure Religion
When I think of "Religion," I think of the worship of someone or something. It could be an ideology, a mythical god, or even money! There is one religion that is superior to all others but, I'll get to that later.
When I was a child, I worshipped my father. He was a strong man, with strong beliefs. As a police officer, he commanded respect from all. I wanted to be just like him. But, as time went on, I found myself worshipping music. In those days, we only had AM radio, but that was enough for me.
As I grew into a young man, I began to worship women. I couldn't keep my mind on anything else! I loved the way they smelled, the way they did their hair, and most of all, the way they felt. Their skin was soft and supple, and just a touch sent me reeling!
In my young adult years, I began to worship cars. I liked classics that were customized from the ground up. I also had a fancy for exotics (you know... the cars that cost a million dollars?). But my favorite car has always been the '59 Cadillac. I've never seen anything like it before or since!
Throughout my late twenties/early thirties, I worshipped my kids. I spent every moment I could with them. I played with their friends, fixed their bikes, took them to parks, and watched movies with them. They were evrything to me!
When I finally grew up (hee hee), I realized that all that worship was directed toward the wrong things. Don't get me wrong; I still admire women (that's a natural instinct for a man), and I still love my kids very much but, I came to see that I should really be worshipping the One who created me. For He, and He alone had been the one who kept me safe through all the accidents, sicknesses, and dangers that I faced in life. He was the one who gave me life and joy and peace!
Some people worship mammon (big money). I never really caught that bug. I always believed that if I had money for today, that was enough. But now, as I look around the world, I see that many millions of people are drawn to money. They can't seem to get enough of it. They'll try anything that comes down the pike to make more. I see them squandering the time away with this scheme or that, and it makes me sad. Many fear the unknown future, and are trying to save up (or invest) so they'll have something to fall back on when troubling times hit. Not me. I live life one day at a time. As it is written, "Dont worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." That's good advice
