With tears streaming down her face Clancy drove aimlessly, she was not aware of where she was going or anything else other than the pressing need to escape. The only trouble was she could not escape the scene running through her mind, over and over. The scene of coming home to her flat and finding her fiance Jim in bed with Amy his personal assistant. An ironic chuckle escaped her as she realised it gave a whole new meaning to the job title, she had been so shocked, so stunned that she had just grabbed her car keys back off the table jumped straight into her car and drove off . She was aware of her mobile ringing on and on in her bag but she would not answer it, she could not answer it. She could not bear to speak to him right now she did not know if she would ever be able to speak to him again. Just then she became aware of a red light on her dashboard blinking at her and taking a closer look felt her heart sink as she realised it was her petrol light. How stupid of her she had meant to fill it up after work today but had put it off thinking she would have enough until the morning. She saw a lay by up ahead and pulled onto it, cutting the engine she banged her hands on the wheel of the car in frustration at herself when she suddenly remembered she had a petrol can in the boot. Hoping and praying it had something in it she went to look but it was empty, fresh tears coursed down her face as she realised she was well and truly stuck. She looked around her there was not a house or shop in sight there was nothing. She was totally deserted on a stretch of road she did not even recognise and she could see no sign posts indicating her position. She did not know what to do, there was no sign at all of any other cars which was not surprising seeing as the wind was picking up and there looked like the beginnings of a storm brewing. Just as that thought passed through her mind big splashes of rain started to fall and a huge streak of lightening forked across the sky. She quickly got back into the car and locked herself in, it looked like she was stuck for the night then she remembered she had her phone with her and quickly fished it out of her bag. She dialled the number for emergency services and waited for an answer she told the woman on the other end her situation and explained as best as she could where she was, she told her that she was on a long road and that by the side of her were some trees but she could see nothing beyond them. The lady thought she knew where
