What's the use of getting high?

If getting 'high' is being defined as being happy or excited, then the answer is people do it because they enjoy it. The typical 'high' is the effect of a rise in dopamine. This is what happens neurologically when riding a roller coaster, using cannabis, using cocaine, as well as an array of other things. Dopamine is produced any time one is excited, or on a drug that forces excitement. This excitement creates satisfaction and contentment. Not many people avoid dopamine increase. Even if someone is against the use of drugs, how many people are against being excited?

If getting 'high' is being defined specifically as being under the influence of cannabis(since this is a common slang term associated with its use), then the answer gets a bit more complicated...First off, as was said above, the effects of consuming cannabis on neurotransmission are an increase in dopamine. Most people would consider this desirable, but regardless of if you enjoy the psychedelic effects the plant offers, there is still good reason to consider its use.

Cannabis smoking has never been shown to cause physical addiction, even heavy usage causes no withdrawal symptoms. Cannabis smoking has never been shown to cause mental addiction more tantalizing than any other enjoyable activity (reading books, going for hikes, etc..).

Recent university studies have shown that Marijuana Smokers Do Not Have any Fewer brain cells Than Non-Users. This alongside the fact that there has Never Been One single Case Of Cancer shown to be Caused By Marijuana use, this should legitimize its use as option. Also, a study showed that injecting THC (delta-9-Tetra Hydro Cannabinoid, the main active constituent of cannabis) into tumors in rats made the tumors shrink! There isn't much out there that directly shrinks a tumor when injected into it. This effect would explain why no one has ever gotten cancer from smoking it.

Another recent study shown that the brain damage from alcohol consumption was lessened in persons who smoked marijuana while drunk, due to the antioxidant and beneficial content of the marijuana. This is interesting because synergy of substances creates an increase in the action of both substances, both in mental and bodily effects. So if the addition of marijuana increases the alcohols damage, and the alcohol increases the effects of the marijuana. Then it seems logical to infer that the marijuanas healing properties are quite potent indeed. If its capable of allowing one who has had
