There were alot of reaons no one liked Kay, she was smelly and mean. When Mrs. Smith paired Jane up with Kay, she stayed a little later to talk to her 5 th grade teacher. Mrs. Smith was kind and understanding she would change it around. Jane wanted to be with her friend Zoe, they had always been partners, since kindergarden. When Jane presented her idea of the change, Mrs. Smith said I am counting on you to make a difference Jane. The next day in school everyone was laughing about the arrangement even Zoe. Jane took K ay's hand and walked over to the monkeybars. Look, I know you don't like me, before Jane could finish Kay looked at her and said you don't like me. I guess I like you, I really don't know you. Jane thought alot about what Kay had said. How could she not like someone she did'n t know just because they were different? It was alot to think about and Jane asked her mom what she thought? I think Mrs. Smith is right, You can make a difference. The next day Jane went into school with a different attitude. Kay noticed it too and asked her about it? Why are you being nice to me? Why not? The project was a fun one which is why Jane had wanted to work with Zoe it meant spending alot of time together. The partners had to care for an egg for a week non-stop like a parent. . One night the schedule called for the egg to be sick and the parents to be up all night. The turn was at Kay's house. Jane could tell that Kay was a little nervous about the idea. What 's up? you 're acting strange? I never had anyone at my house before. Ok what should I bring? How about yahtzee? ah yeah ok . When Jane's Mom dropped her off Kay and her mom came out to meet them. Jane and Kay went ahead in and went to Kay's room. It was nothing like Jane's room, the walls were bare and the bed had just a blanket on it over old sheets. Jane put out her sleeping bag and looked around. It was'nt home to Jane but it was to Kay. The project ended with the spring break, but the friendship was the difference. Mrs. Smith kept Jane in after school one day to tell her. Jane, I am proud of you and the difference you have made with Kay. Thank you Mrs. Smith, Kay is really a great friend. Kay and Jane stayed friends all though school and even college. They even let zoe hang out too. The girls formed a group called it takes a friend to be a friend, so lets make a difference together. The bright yellow banner flying high.
