Cell phones and cell plans can become a very expensive proposition, especially when you have kids and you are the one paying for their cell phones. There are so many cell phones and cell phone plans that walking into a cell phone store is a dizzying prospect. You almost have to be a teenager, and have just consumed major amounts of caffeine to understand what exactly the sales person is talking about. But, there are many alternatives to owing a cell phone, and there are several cell phone ways to go that are cheaper than those super expensive plans.

How about utilizing two cans, and a string? Many children have tried this method over the years, and it is a lot cheaper than buying a cell phone, and a cell plan. But, the reception is just as bad as some cell phones, and possibly in the end the cheapness of the string and the cans held on either end isn't worth it. Besides, where do you text message on these things? Possibly in your own home, while yelling into the cans, you may be able to hear the other person, but when going outside, you may not be able to hear anything. And the string only reaches so far, so you can't rely on this kind of phone, outside of the calling limits.
But for real life cheap choices for cell phones, you can try going without a cell phone, and utilizing the Internet. When you are at work, really cheap it out, and send messages to all your friends, and relatives. You can even get to work early, so you are not wasting company time while e-mailing your friends. This way you are saving major bucks, and you don't have to pay those expensive cell phone bills. Utilize your own computer at home. Many times Internet access is cheaper than purchasing a cell phone and paying for making the phone calls. Just keep those messages short, business like, and please no swearing.
Go with cell phone plans that offer a pre-paid card, or are pre-paid. This way, you are already paid up for a certain amount of money that is a lot less than what you would usually spend. Certainly there are drawbacks to these plans, but for the most part, they keep you in line with what your budget for your cell phone spending should be. These plans are great to get when you have children, and teenagers and you are the person paying the bill. This way, they can only talk to their friends for so long, before time is up, so to speak.
