The Thanksgiving Pumpkin
As the winters first snow came softly down, the last pumpkin in the garden seemed to be out of place in this winters scene.
The plump skin on the pumpkin was still a vibrant orange. Its sturdy stem and leaves just hinted with the falls shades of yellow color. There it sat alone, in the garden, still waiting to be chosen and taken home someone. But Halloween had come and gone, and all of the other pumpkins were eagerly, chosen. They were each picked up, held and studied, then taken away with happy shouts of excitement and laughter by the children.
But, this last pumpkin was not chosen. Its size color and texture was perfect for any jack- o- lanterns face. Yet, there it remained, in the garden alone .Now as if to make matters even worse, the small snow flakes were beginning to gather on its smooth skin, and doubts of this pumpkin being chosen now, was just a wish that was not to be granted.
The days of the Summers warmth, and soothing rain, the rich warm October's sun, baking the rich peak orange color into the pumpkins skin, was being fondly remembered, as the snow landed and melted around it.
The hopes for a reason of the pumpkins growth and destiny seemed lost.
As the cold wind cut across its bright orange skin, it was time for this pumpkin to sleep.
The seeds inside would sink into the cold ground as the plump skin melted around them in winters fury. But in the warm spring, when all life would renew itself, this pumpkin too would be renewed, and have its chance for growth and a purpose fulfilled.
At evenings purple dusk, a warm light glowed from a window of the home that had this pumpkin patch. The shadow of the glow lay on the ground in a rectangle as it reflected off the snow, and shone on this last pumpkin in the garden. Its orange skin vibrant by the reflection of light, made it glow warmly.
Then the sound came, a crunching noise, then the warm sounds of children laughter. The last pumpkin was picked up and held. It was looked at, and rubbed as it was lifted out of the pumpkin patch. It was carried into the warm glow of the lights reflection.
Te pumpkin was set down in the middle of a long white table. The warmth of being inside the home and being part of the light, teulry baked into the pumpkins skin. And the rich orange color, now took on even more of a deeper, brilliant, and warmer shade.
It glowed.
The lonely last forgotten pumpkin was now the welcomed centerpiece of a loving family's Thanksgiving celebration. There as the family all sat hands clasped, they gave thanks for their family, their love, and the wonderful harvest that was given to them this year.
This last lonely pumpkins destiny had truly been fulfilled.
May your Thanksgiving find you not lonely, but welcomed and loved and appreciated, from the special harvest from God. May you to be brought into the light, and filled with the true knowledge of your destiny. May you glow with that love.
