layer upon layer
of silver lined lies
we wrap our love
in an intricate
lace-patterned cloak
of deceit
and slowly
it starts to cover our heads
these inky black pools
of self-serving distortions
separate us
and years turn our inches
into miles
I can hardly see you across
the murky waters anymore
your dishonesty
makes me question
what I ever saw in you
to begin with
and now my body
is standing tall
as I throw mean
cheap one-liners at you
but inside
I'm curled up
in the fetal position
sucking my thumb
all I ever asked for
was
the truth
