Some things never change. For me one of the biggest, was the need for love and protection. As a child I needed both. Oddly, I need them both even now as an as adult.
I don't think it's some kind of puzzle to be solved. It's much like common sense. From conception to birth a baby is formed secretly in his or her Mother's uterus. This baby spends nine months developing in the safety net of her Mother's growing belly. The unborn baby swims laps in a warm pool of water for nine months without having to wear any water wings. This child is cushioned from the harsh realities of real life. He knows nothing of pain. What he does know is peace and tranquility. He hears his Mother's calming, steady heartbeat. He feels the love bond between he and his landlord. He just sits back, sipping margaritas, relaxing in his built in jacuzzi. At this point he doesn't fear what the future holds for him. As it turns out he might just be a little on the naive side.
What he doesn't know can't hurt him, right? Little baby Jones's is doing fun somersaults one minute, then next he's feeling a little seasick. He doesn't know what that means yet. All of a sudden this peaceful, serene home becomes a tempest. The wind begins thrashing about causing a huge tidal wave. And guess who is in the wake? That's right, that tiny helpless being is getting caught up in the waves. Have you ever seen a cannonball fired? I rest my case.
Moving right along, the child is thrust into a room full of sunshine, but he wasn't given sunglasses to lose the glare. He has suddenly arrived on a scene he's not too sure he likes. Discomfort becomes a crash course.
It is at this point when a child begins to need love and protection. He knows no way to go about getting what he needs. My guess is he starts leaking. His eyes well up with tears. His tiny seafeet start flailing about. A little voice begins to cry. In walks destiny, fate, Or my favorite name for it is Mom. She gathers that new little person to herself and kisses the tiny cheek. She pats that little back and does everything within her power and then some to relieve the discomfort of her child. And thus begins a beautiful love affair between mother and child. Years come and go, and that loved and protected child pays it forward.
Children are gifts from the Almighty. I really believe this. I think God gave children the need for love and protection to allow us parents to get a glimpse of who he really is. Maybe so we'd see what a good parent he is to us. God gives us a time to be in charge of loving these little people and protecting them to the best of our ability. It's no small task, but it's the best opportunity to be given. I know this for a fact.
We all, it seems come from the same humble beginnings. We all start as unborn babies. We come into the world needy. We're all blessed to have someone there watching out for us, keeping us loved and protected. I am still thankful that I am loved and protected even as a grown woman.
