A HEART
It's hard being classed as old when you are not dying of a disease and your pet is in the same boat. How the helpless are separated within this society, and so many have no-one to speak for them. So finding a home for the elderly and their elderly pet, without them being ripped apart of what is required the most. Their togetherness... it is not easy. But there are those who can help.
More elderly die of loneliness and a broken heart, than they do of one disease or another. And having their long loved companion taken away from them, is a killing process in itself, due to them being placed in one form of home, hospice, or unit, alone. It's a known fact how a pet is medicine to the soul, and there are those with a heart who could become a companion volunteer to help an elderly owner find the right home. To separate them would be as cruel for their long lived pet, as it would be on their elderly beloved owner.
The pet, just because it is elderly, is still capable as it always has done, of giving unconditional love to their owner. Together they can go on, always knowing that even age, does not have to be against them. It is the blessing which saves more souls than does their separation. The owner will know - there comes a day - if called for, and most certainly will act humanely for their pet, accordingly. Otherwise they would have done so, before going into elderly care.
Once the owner has reached the stage in life of requiring a hospice, or what-ever care, it is true many do not permit pets. This is where even the simple Internet can come into play, by relatives or a volunteer. This is the search place to begin where so much is advertised ; but this is just the beginning. It reaches into all avenues.
The next is to list all which have been found on this network, and contact must be made. Best first - if out of reach - to ask for brochures to be sent, giving more detailed answers. But most of all find where the elderly person would rather be - meaning area - then make an appointment to see this new place for their own assessment. Including their beloved pet.
It is vital that all the proper home-work be done first. The bottom lines of every fact and question on the elderly resident's mind, for themselves and their pet, may be found in a more humble, yet accommodating home for both. Where peace of mind, and simplicity yet care, is more important than luxuries. Hold onto your beloved pet, and may you find all this togetherness where you can just begin to grow old together. There is hope, and there are ways.
