Dining etiquette: Why you should be polite to your waitress

Your waitress at a restaurant has a pretty difficult job. Most of them she is running around taking orders and refilling drinks. In addition, she delivers food to customers over and over again. Working in the restaurant business is very stressful. It is non stop work and fast paced environment. Here are five tips on why you should be polite to your waitress.

Free food and drinks

Your waitress has the power to give you free drinks and other items. They just need to want to. If you are extra polite and are a big tipper then she will mostly like comp most items for you. If you are a regular customer to a certain restaurant then they tend to pay more attention to you. You have the ability to request a specific waitress each time you visit.

She can keep your food waiting even longer

Be nice to your waitress otherwise she could keep your food away even longer. She can place other peoples orders in front of yours. Don't swear at her. Don't throw a fit if she is a bit slow on a busy night. She has a ton of things to do each night that she works at a restaurant. Restaurant work is very difficult work that makes you tired by the night of the shift. Please be understanding your waitress is doing the best that she possibly can on a busy night. She is working very hard for her money.

She has power with the manager

Just with a simple conversation to the manager about any food that did not taste right or was not cooked exactly the way you wanted it. She can talk the manager to comp your entire meal plus any guests meals most of the time. If you are upset about your dining experience make sure to remain nice and polite about the situation. You will get better results.

She can give you extra side order of food items without charge

She can bring you that side of bacon bits that you have been wanting for a long time without charge. She can give you that extra side of mashed potatoes if you really want them for free. Be polite and say please and thank you all the time during the dining experience. Your waitress has the option of not to charge you for almost anything. It is up to her and what management lets her get away with not charging people with.

She will treat you depending upon how much you tip her

The general tip rate is fifteen percent of the total bill. Make sure to tip more than that if you received good service and excellent food arrived promptly on time. She will remember the people who tip high and give them better service in the long run.
