Single on Valentine's Day? How to celebrate with style

Being single doesn't have to mean being left out of the loop when it comes to celebrating Valentine's Day. Although February 14th has long been commercialized as a day for the celebration and recognition of romantic relationships, the core of the Valentine message lies in love itself. Don't let the candy hearts and teddy bears on the store shelves convince you that you don't have something to celebrate simply because you aren't in a relationship. Find your own special way to recognize the love you do have in your life.

* Treat yourself to a makeover or day at the spa, pamper yourself. Make it a point to spend the day doing something you truly enjoy.

* Spread the love. Valentine's Day isn't about the love we get, it's about the love we give. Dedicate the day to helping someone else. Volunteer for community service or do something thoughtful for someone you care about, be it a friend, a family member or a neighbor.

* Throw a singles party. Invite unattached friends and acquaintances to join you in celebrating singleness! You never know...this may even double as a matchmaking opportunity for those singles who make a connection.

If you are recently single or going through the pain of a break up when Valentine's Day rolls around, you might celebrate the day by making a checklist of what you are looking for in a romantic relationship and design a plan as to how you might achieve your goals in the future. Romantic love, as we all know, is mostly a series of trial and error. Take this time to examine the lessons of your last error to learn how you can avoid making the same mistakes in future relationships.
