This fall, Paris catwalks are awash with colors of an Indian summer. The colors are bold and vibrant, from deep yellows to maroon reds and vibrant purples. How better to keep that cosy feeling all through winter. The biggest trend is to layer these colors with deeper cool colors like blue and grey to create more of a dramatic effect and bold entrance.
Sonia Rykiel found her inspiration for this 2008 fall collection from London's Pearly Kings and Queens, modernized with a shot of color. Dresses were adorned with bright colored buttons with sparkly round glasses to match. Think vintage and punk era styling. The Victorian era and the 1920's have also made a mark on this falls catwalk designs.
The more traditional look is given a lift with thick wrap knit jumpers, knit dresses with asymmetrical patterns and fitted trousers to show off those great boots or burlesque shoes that steal the show. The collections are cheery and provide the perfect way to brighten up a winter's day.
Plaid, gingham, and tartan were splashed all over the fall 2008 ready-to-wear runways. This trend seems to have not lost momentum for the past four years in the fashion world. Though, this time, it's color that makes plaid, gingham and tartan so interesting and vibrant.
Long forgotten are the plain winter coats with nothing to say. This year you are spoilt for choice with vibrant rich colors, patterns, fabrics and styles. Trench coats, double-breasted jackets with bold belts and vibrant ponchos are on the agenda. Leather and fur, if you are bold enough!
The Victorians had a way of showcasing ankles and this fall that's the idea. Shoe boots, ankle boots and knee boots; come in funky designs and colors that are sexier than ever before.
Let's not forget our male counterparts who are given the go ahead to be a bit more adventurous by being allowed to wear more color and funky designs as well! Think burgundy red or purple sweaters that bring some warmth to the traditional black, grey or blue options. Gingham and tartan patterns are also to be seen.
Armani and others this fall chose to give the traditional male suit color and a funky twist with symmetrical or asymmetrical designs that creates that edgy look. I would dare to say that an underlying theme from all designers is to create styles for the determined, outgoing and creative male that breaks boundaries and takes chances but does not lose his dignified presence.
This fall, the designers cheer us up with a depth of creativity, vibrancy and warmth expressed through color that is uplifting. A feeling of hope that the hard times will pass, we can change direction and get to better times again!
