Wedding costs can add up fast. With a little creativity and some advance planning, you can create the wedding of your dreams on the budget of your reality.
A helpful step is to consider what part of your day will mean the most to you. Is it important that you have your day chronicled from beginning to end? If so, invest your resources in a quality photographer. If that's less important to you, let a trusted and talented friend or relative help out with picture taking. They will be honored to be asked. Once you have decided on your priorities, you can then consider where to cut some unnecessary wedding costs.
Cutting wedding costs doesn't necessarily mean cutting back on beauty or fun. Consider using artificial flowers for attendents that can double as centerpieces at the the reception. These aren't your grandmothers silk flowers anymore! A quality craft shop will help you select the types of flowers and colors that will compliment both your ceremony and reception.
Food and beverages can be two of the high budget items in wedding planning. To limit wedding costs, consider providing an appetizer reception rather than a full meal. Or rather than having an open bar, offer keg beer as complimentary. Your guests came to celebrate your day, not to be fed. Put the focus back on you and the guests will never know the difference.
Decorations are another area where cost can be an issue. Consider the time, location and season of your wedding. A winter wedding can be made frosty and beautiful by the use of wreathes and pine boughs. A summer after wedding can be whimsical with decorations such as hay bales and fresh fruits and vegetables. Be creative and authentic. Your wedding is the chance to let your true self shine.
Remember that your wedding is about your new union. It isn't about impressing your friends and family or about being the biggest and the best. This celebration should showcase the two of you in the most genuine of ways. Planning a wedding on a budget is a responsible first step to a happy and healthy life together.
