Daddy, I remember when
You wrapped your arms around me
And gave me advice I didn't want to hear
You told me I could do anything
Make every dream come true
You told me that there is no limit
On what I could achieve
You gave me inspiration
By the way you lived your life
A happy man who inspired everyone
I can still hear you saying
Don't let trouble, trouble you
Until trouble, troubles you
You never worried much
You always knew
Everything would work out
In the end.
You smiled in the face of adversity
You joked around to bring a smile
To everyone's face
The twinkle in your eye and
The skip in your step
Let everyone know
The happiness you felt inside.
Daddy, I remember when
You gave me your shoulder
To cry on
When someone broke my heart
And I remember the words you said
It was going to be alright
Everything works out in the end
Just hold on tight
Daddy, you gave me wings to fly
And now you're gone
A vivacious, positive man
Taken suddenly
I guess God just couldn't wait any longer
For you to make Him smile
Daddy, it's one year later and
I miss you terribly
But I remember all the positive
And see all the beauty that you saw
I'm taking all your advice now
Thank you for giving it to me
I'm living my life now
According to my dreams
Making every dream come true
And I don't let trouble, trouble me
I'm making every day count
And living it the way you did
I'm flying on those wings
You gave me
And I'm choosing happiness
Daddy, you were right
About everything
It took losing you
for me to understand
all the wisdom in your words
But now I understand and
I'm taking your advice
I'm living my life the way
You always showed me how
I will continue your legacy
Of happiness and positive thinking
Daddy, I'm flying high
In memory of you.

Poetry: Death of a parent
by Jon Coe
Although you thought you knew me
and you probably did, then
Your death has changed me
this is now, not when
From a distance,
My mother, gone to her rest above
Taking with her my thoughts and love
She in life, a woman small and frail
What I write
by newby
Mindful colours of billowing greys
Dredge through my head in saddening ways
Restless and worrisome troublesome too.
Reminiscence
by Nellie Shani
Death keep your presence at bay
You have taken my mother away
As I look at that empty bed
Of one who so deeply cared
Hot tears
by Jishi Santos
I left my Dad in bed and shook his hand
and took off to another place to work.
His handshake, always firm, was my last touch,
