Poetry: Looking in the mirror

looking in the mirror
frightens me
because I'm afraid
of what I'll see

will I have extra pudge
here or there
will I like the way
I have my hair

will my face have exploded
with red blotches and bumps
what's this on my side
two extra lumps

my skin is the wrong color
involuntary tan lines
too pale in places
and freckles unaligned

my nose turns up
like that of a pig
if it would only go straight
if it wasn't so big

my eyes are too close
the brows too full
the eyes i can't fix
the brows, I'll pluck and pull

my hair is a mess
it won't curl or be straight
the irons and products
but it won't go the right way

looking in the mirror
I just don't want to see
this empty shell
that used to be me
