looking in the mirror
frightens me
because I'm afraid
of what I'll see
will I have extra pudge
here or there
will I like the way
I have my hair
will my face have exploded
with red blotches and bumps
what's this on my side
two extra lumps
my skin is the wrong color
involuntary tan lines
too pale in places
and freckles unaligned
my nose turns up
like that of a pig
if it would only go straight
if it wasn't so big
my eyes are too close
the brows too full
the eyes i can't fix
the brows, I'll pluck and pull
my hair is a mess
it won't curl or be straight
the irons and products
but it won't go the right way
looking in the mirror
I just don't want to see
this empty shell
that used to be me

Man In The Mirror:
The eyes seem bright and stern
Yet display a hint of grief
The smile seems one so peaceful
Yet inside
The daily occurance of a reflection
All too familiar to me,
Brings about a common sequence
Of events caused naturally.
