There is one thing that I am certain of, and it is that being sexy has nothing to do with chiselled good looks, a sun tan, a mop of curly hair, long eyelashes, or even things like revealing tops, short skirts or tight trousers. I suppose you could put a combination of things together and the result would LOOK sexy, but BEING sexy is totally different.

When I see women spending thousands of pounds getting their breasts enlarged, their wrinkles smoothed out, their lips enhanced I want to shout

"Save your money. If you want to look good then fine, but if you are hoping that all this will make you sexy then forget it "

I don't believe you can buy sexiness.

I think that being sexy is something from within, something you are probably not even aware of. To me, the sexiest actor around is a guy who is 60 years old, balding and gaining a few wrinkles. As far as I'm concerned , as handsome as they are, you can keep the Tom Cruises, the Richard Geres and the Sean Connerys. The actor Jonathan Pryce (of Evita/ Tomorrow Never Dies/Brazil fame) is the sexiest man on the planet.

Of course there are women who will disagree, and that is exactly what I mean. One person's idea of sexy is another person's idea of YUK. This proves my point exactly, sexy is a very personal thing and I suppose you could say we are all of us sexy in our own way.

I suppose being sexy has a lot to do with being confident and happy in your own skin. Even shyness can be sexy. What I am trying to do is say that sexiness is not forced, true sexiness is the way you are as a person, the way you treat other people and the belief that you should be accepted for the person you are not the person you try to be.

I have a friend who is very overweight, has fine, limp hair and is fast approaching her 50th birthday. Yet she is always surrounded by men when we go out for the evening, and is always being asked out on dates.

The assets she possesses cannot be manufactured, bought or copied. She has a large, bubbly personality, loads of self confidence and most of all, she truly cares about other people, listens to what they say and uses plenty of eye contact in short her body language gives out positive signals.

So I have now given up on the lotions and potions. I wear what I want, use the products I want to use, and most important of all I've stopped trying so hard. I tell myself I'm too old to care about being sexy or not, but secretly I would like to think that in 4 years time, I will be truly

"sexy at sixty".
