Are humans too busy to pay attention to the importance of life on earth

This truly is a very deep topic, and one that I have pondered on for quite some time. Humans are definitely too busy to pay attention to the importance of life on earth.

Life comes at us wide open - it doesn't wait on you, it doesn't put itself on hold, it doesn't wait until you are ready for the ride. Life is fragile - it can be here one moment and gone the next. We only have one shot at living it right - one shot to find our place in this world. We must make the most of it.

Today, the rat race is on - we run from here just to get there, once there - we run back. We rarely stop to "smell the roses" or look at the trees growing before our very eyes. We forget to thank the Creator for all He has provided us with, yet we never forget to accept the gift.

We are busy, too busy to slow down, too busy to take time, and too busy to realize that life is passing by. We run so rapidly to find the answers, yet we never stop to review the questions. Life wasn't given to us to rush through it - and those up in years would probably give all they had if they could start over and enjoy it instead of allowing it to pass them by.

The web site has taken the place of our library, because we can get there faster and find information at our fingertips; yet while waiting on our computers to reveal the results of our search, flowers are growing outside, mountains are changing their shapes, and suns are setting. We don't have time to watch them, to look at them, to enjoy them - because we are too busy.

Sitting on the front porch waving at our neighbor, taking the time to stop and speak to an old friend, and waking up to the smell of a freshly cooked breakfast seems to have become a thing of the past. We'd love to have them back, yet we are much too busy to take these challenges on, we aren't too busy to run from one meeting to the next and cram 14 hours worth of work in an 8 hour shift.

We refuse to change - refuse to slow down - refuse to jump off of the world's merry-go-round - refuse to appreciate what God has blessed us with. At age 90, maybe we will slow down - but will we be able to see the beauty that surrounds us daily? Will we be able to walk around the precious earth beneath our feet? Will we be able to convince others that life is passing them by, that the rat race isn't worth it, that they need to get off?

At that age, it may be too late - but today is the day we could all take a stand and refuse to bow down to the world's expectations of how we should live our life. We should take every precious moment given to us and utilize it at our own pace. We may not be rich in monetary value - but our treasures will be found in the joys that this life has to offer - each and every special second of the days we are left with.
