Decorate your front door for the holidays

Your front door is the heart of your home. It is the first thing that people notice when they enter. How your door looks will give people an impression before they even enter your house.

This holiday season let your door do the talking for you. There are many fun creative ways that you can give your door a voice. Even simple changes will make your home seem more inviting and make your guests feel welcome.

Cover your whole door!

One common way to decorate a door is with a full size door hanger. These can be purchased at many stores and are generally inexpensive. The designs can range from religious scenes to pictures of Santa Claus. Choose one that best suits the impression you want to give your gifts about your feelings for the holidays.

Make your door into a gift!

Many people relate presents to the holiday season. Use this relation to your benefit. Cover your door with wrapping paper or aluminum foil. Decorate it with a bow just as you would a present. This type of door decorating shows that you are grateful for your home and see it as a gift within itself.

Get cozy with a patchwork quilt style.

Patchwork quilts offer a very cozy and comfortable appeal. Give your door this effect by taping Christmas photos from previous years, children's artwork, coloring pages, past greeting cards, and even letters to Santa edge to edge. This is a very creative way to display memories, decorate your door, and make get your guest's attention all at once.

Light up the way!

Christmas lights are a great way to get into the spirit of the season. Use battery-operated lights to decorate your front door. Drape them in a fun design such as a Christmas tree, a heart, or a snowman and secure them with tacks or staples so that they will not easily become unhinged. Twinkling, glowing, sparkling lights will draw attention to your door in a very simple creative way.

Paint a masterpiece!

Use a washable paint to draw your own Christmas scene or write your own greeting on your door. You can even let children help you. Hand-painted doors are a great way to personalize your home and holidays this season.

Use your imagination.

If you can think it, you can create it. Decide how you want your guests to feel and choose accordingly. Simple jingle bells can be hung to clank together as guests enter. Cotton balls can be used to create snow scenes. Stickers, embellishments, ribbons, bows, and even wreaths can get your message across.

This holiday season, decorate your door and spread cheer to those around you. Your guests will enjoy your creativity and people just driving by will feel the spirit. Your door is a great way to spread holiday cheer and offer season's greetings. "Tis' the season to be jolly."
